word of mouth facebook
Background. Early in 2005 I started Vocanic, my word of mouth marketing agency the vision for what we do was based around a single statement (see www.vocanic.com)
"There is nothing more valuable for your brand than a personal recommendation from one friend to another"
And thus, your brand's advocate promoters represented a much better way to reach out and create awareness and invite trial from new users than anything based on the old style interruption advertising model.
Now, November 2007 it seems like a fellow called Zuckerberg seems to agree with me, see his quote when launching SocialAds on his FaceBook platform
“Nothing influences a person more than a recommendation from a trusted friend,”
Thanks Mark … its nice to know you’re thinking along the same lines (and wish I’d sold 1.6% of my company for $250m on the way) !
Social Ads – as far as I can tell from the FaceBook Press Release are going to work like this.
When you buy something from a participating e-retailer you will be asked if the e-retailer can post to your profile saying that you have bought their product and include their message.
Some sources (eg NY Times) are describing it as "twist" word of mouth
“Yesterday, in a twist on word-of-mouth marketing, Facebook began selling ads that display people’s profile photos next to commercial messages that are shown to their friends about items they purchased or registered an opinion about.”
The Social Ads Idea is clever, very clever. But it’s not true word of mouth. Here’s why
In my book WoM is when the person makes the recommendation for a brand in his/her own words (this is why it is authentic and credible) and NOT when they get used as a carrier pigeon to deliver the brands message.
In FaceBook’s model people’s profiles are simply being co-opted to carry the brands advertising. It’s simply a clever way for brands to put their advert on your FaceBook profile
But – the advertisers with love it as it “seems like Word of Mouth” and YET they still get to control the message – and thus FaceBook will make lots more money.
Conclusion:
Is it a clever new way to advertise– yes.
Is it a good idea for brands to advertise this way – yes.
But, don’t see this as real word of mouth – my profile carrying your ad is not as effective as me telling my friends in my own words how good your product is.
Net net – do both, they work hand in had.
Wow this sounds familiar ….

Facebook Login Support
Diganose The Problem
Your first course of action, if you can’t log into your Facebook account, is to diagnose what is keeping you out. Have you forgotten your password? If so you must reset your Facebook passoword via the Facebook Password Rest Page. A forgotten password is only one of many possible reasons you can’t log in. I would suggest you visit the the Facebook Help Center at this point, and use the information there to diagnose your problem. One particularly useful page is the help center’s Login and Password page, where you’ll find the following topics.

* I can’t log in to Facebook.
* I want to change my password.
* My account was hacked or “phished.”
* I want to change my login email address or add a new contact email address.
* I want to sign up for an account. I’m experiencing issues registering for an account.
* There is a yellow banner prompting me to confirm my account.
* I have questions about the “Remember me” option
* Bugs and known problems.
Is Facebook Being Blocked?
If all else fails, your Facebook access may be getting blocked by your employer, school, internet provider, or government. In this situation you’ll need to use what is called a Proxy Server to access facebook. Luckily for you, dear reader, the team here at Facebook Login has created not one, but two free Facebook Proxy Servers for your use.
Facebook Login Story
How did this page come into existence? It’s a funny story, I was locked out of my own Facebook account for over a month. I ended up getting in touch with someone at Facebook via email (support@facebook.com), and they were able to help me with my problem.
Your Facebook Login Story
I hope this article has helped you log into you Facebook account. If you have anything to contribute to this topic, please do so. I’d like to hear all of your Facebook login stories. Hopefully Facebook will catch wind of the problems we are having and do something about it. In the end, I just want to be able to log into my Facebook account, is that too much to ask for?

How To Protect Yourself So To Not Get Banned By Facebook
Facebook has worked hard to make sure that they keep spam to a minimum and if they even think that you are trying to spam on their site they will ban you. Facebook should even be a little bit more cautious because of all the problems that people had over at Myspace. Once Facebook opened the doors to the general public there was a huge influx of people coming over, most people came because they couldn't handle all the spam inside Myspace.
Take a look at what Facebook considers spam.
Make sure that you are not trying to add a lot of friends in one day. This is usually around 100 people a day. It is a good idea to keep the amount of people that you add a day to around 60 or less, unless you are getting more suggested friends that you may know.
Second thing you will not want to do is send out a exact message on all of your friends walls. This is going back to the Myspace days of when you would see the exact same thing about how someone won a free purse, although it was on your most manliest friends wall. This happened when one of your friends accounts go hacked and then the spammer went in there and posted random spammy wall posts. It might be true that you have the same thing to say to all of your friends, but if this is the issue, just update your updates in your feed.
The next thing that you will want to watch out for is sending a mass email. There is a limit in Facebook on how many people you can send an email to that is identical. If this is something that you still really want to do, just make sure to change the title of the email so that it reflects differently to some of your friends.
The last thing you will be considered spamming for is if you send out a mass poke or promtional links to all your friends. It can be that you feel like poking all of your friends for fun, but just don't do it.

Learn All About Facebook
Facebook may not be as well known as other popular social networking websites, such as Yahoo! 360 or MySpace, but it is still popular. That popularity is mostly among high school students and college students, mostly because Facebook focuses on these individuals in particular. With Facebook, you are required to register for a specific network. That network can either include the high school or college which you attended or are currently attending. Once you have joined the website, you should easily be able to make contact with others who are in the same network.
The network in which you join can be considered an advantage of Facebook, as well as a disadvantage. See, Facebook does not work like most other social networking websites. Instead of being able to communicate with all site members, you are limited to contact with those that are in your particular network, the high school or college you that selected. The creators of Facebook state that this is for your own safety. Although it is safer for your profile and personal information to be viewed by a small number of individuals, you may not necessity want it to be that way.
Although a large amount of focus is placed on high school students and college students, Facebook has added another popular feature to their website. That feature is workplace networks. By joining a specific workplace network, you will be granted access to other community members who work for the same company as you. This feature is nice, especially since many companies have become large corporations or expanded across the country. You may be able to make contact and become friends with a long-distance coworker that you never knew you had.
Another aspect of Facebook that you may find inconvenient is their lack of available information, before you decide to become a community member. When viewing their online website, which can be found at facebook com, it is hard to tell whether or not the site is free to use. Most online social networking sites will make this known right upfront, but Facebook does not. Aside from the price, you should easily be able to obtain additional information on Facebook, before making the decision to become a member. This additional information may include how Facebook works, why you should become a member, how the invite process works, and general rules and restrictions that are in place.
If you are interested in joining the Facebook community, you should do what you should do with all other social networking websites, research. By taking the time to research and examine everything that Facebook has to offer, you should be able to decide whether or not this popular networking community is what you were looking for. There is a good chance that it will be, but if not, do not worry. There are literally an unlimited number of other social networking websites that you can join.

Facebook Scams Beware!
There are 150 million of users from all over the world on this site every single day and that's why you should be careful on who you communicate with. You cannot see who you are talking too, and you don't know if they are approaching you with the truth in email exchanges. This is a perfect and wide open opportunity for scammers to take advantage of you. These criminals can pose as your friend and scam you out of anything they want.
Here are some scams for you to watch out for when it comes to communicating with strangers on Facebook.
Friend in Distress- This is when a scammer posing as your friend emails you and tells you that they have been in some kind of accident and need your help. They will ask you to send them money. They will give you any kind of story for you to believe them so that you can send those funds. One key to this scam that does not fit is when they request that you send the money overseas. If you come in contact with someone that has sent you an email like this, and it just does not sound right. Call your friend to make sure you don't fall victim to this scam. The reason why they have your friend's info to contact you on Facebook is that they have hack into your friend's computer. Be careful!
Fishing Friend Scam- Is when you get an email sending you to another website to download software. When you download the software it releases viruses to your computer and allows the hacker to get into your computer and gather all of your information.
Viral Wall Past Scam- This is when you get an email and it's has a virus in it which allows the hacker to get all of you and your friend's info on your Facebook account and see everything you are typing when communicating with your contacts. These scammers can collect your bank account information and everything else.
So, when you are on Facebook beware of these suspicious emails. If you get an email from a friend and you have an unsettling feeling about it, remember contact your friend by phone to ensure that it was them that had contacted you.

In September, Facebook lost a $9.5m class-action lawsuit and subsequently shuttered its Beacon service, which recorded what users did on non-Facebook sites and posted the information to the system's news feed. Beacon infuriated Facebook users, who argued that it drew together disparate information that was disturbingly more than the sum of its parts. (One plaintiff's Christmas present to his wife, a ring bought on Overstock.com, was unexpectedly revealed to his network, ruining the surprise. He received $15,000.)
Facebook has been repeatedly criticised on privacy grounds. While the company claims it doesn't sell user information, details are made available to third-party application developers, who account for much of the site's profits. And researchers have found that personal data can be "leaked" to advertisers and data aggregators, who already collect browsing and behavioural information about people as they move about the web. Just last week, Facebook announced a multi-million dollar deal with Nielsen, known for their meticulous tracking of television ratings and internet metrics.
Even without these partnerships, Facebook makes privacy advocates uneasy. University of Wisconsin professor Michael Zimmer accurately identified an "anonymised" Facebook dataset from the description that it was a private college in the northeast (spoiler alert: it was Harvard). Similarly, the "Project Gaydar" research team at MIT found that gay men's sexual orientation could be identified based solely on their friends. It's not just information you make explicitly available – age, partner's name or favourite film – that identifies you on Facebook. Close analysis of a network of friends can reveal deeply personal details, even with a private profile. These studies suggest that it's impossible to retain complete control over personal information within a detailed, publicly available network.
Highly publicised incidents in which information posted on Facebook led to firings, evictions and expulsions have inspired stern lectures to students, warning them to remove their profiles, or else. But it's not that simple. For millions of people – and not just teenagers – Facebook facilitates conversations, connections and invitations that are integral to both online and offline social life. Indeed, there are clear social benefits to letting your friends know what you're up to.
But providing personal information to friends as part of a thriving social web is very different from passing that same information to teachers, employers or marketing companies. Personal details are shared within a social context that already has certain privacy expectations – don't tell my mom I'm having a party. Don't tell John about his birthday present.
The enormous protests over Beacon show what happens when users believe their privacy expectations have been violated. In February, Facebook changed its terms of service, claiming that it owned content contributed by users. The uproar that ensued spurred it to ask for user input into future changes, a surprising victory.
While people are starting to hold Facebook accountable for these promises, the company's privacy controls need to be more transparent and user-friendly. Users should know, for example, that installing an application makes all their friends' personal information available to the company that developed that application – which could be a marketing agency, a major corporation or one student in a dorm room.
Equally important, we need stronger privacy laws for social media users. For example, although it's illegal for US employers to ask job candidates their race or age, this information is routinely found using social network sites. People are unlikely to stop using sites like Facebook. Rather than protesting, we need legal, social and technological institutions to protect us. If Facebook and other social media creators care about the long-term success of their companies, they should take an active role in instituting privacy controls and support data protection legislation.

2 Windows Vista Gadgets to Login to Facebook from a Sidebar
It became very clear to me that Facebook was not your high school teenage fad. I found folks from my old home town – some of them well into retirement age – happily posting status updates about their daily activities, struggles, joys and thoughts. This, I thought to myself (and still do), is something that’s going to have major social ramifications. I’m not really sure what they are going to be, but the proliferation of Facebook throughout the world and throughout most industries completely fascinates me.
However, there is this one little thing that absolutely annoyed me about Facebook. You have to go to the site, do the Facebook login, and keep it open in order to receive status updates, notices or alerts about what’s going on. Sure, you could configure your profile to send notifications to your email address, but then you have to constantly check your email – and who wants an email box completely spammed by Facebook notifications? So, after buying a new PC with Windows Vista installed – complete with neat desktop sidebar applications – I started looking for a way to do the Facebook login automatically and receive instant status updates directly to my desktop, without having to log into Facebook all the time.
During that search, I discovered two perfect free Facebook login tools – the Facebook Sidebar Gadget, and MyFacebook. Just to save you some time – I opted for MyFacebook because it offered more interactive features. If you’d rather go for that, scroll down to the MyFacebook section. However, I also wanted to review the Facebook Gadget as well – and since that’s the one I tried first, I’ve reviewed it first.
Automatic Facebook Login With The Sidebar Gadget
For widgets and applications that automatically connect to your Facebook account, you need to acquire and configure a special number that gives that application “permission” to check your Facebook account for you. When you download the gadget and click on the file to install it, it’ll place the gadget on your sidebar as shown here.
When you click on “Login” the app automatically opens to your Facebook page, where you’ll need to do the regular Facebook login if you haven’t already. There, you’ll see this window.
Just click “Get login code for” and on the next screen click “Generate” and you’ll finally receive the magical “one-time” code to provide your gadget so that it can automatically do your Facebook login for you automatically.
Copy the code, and then go back to your desktop sidebar and click on the little “wrench” icon to the right of it. When you do that, the window will pop-up for you to enter your super-secret Facebook code.
Enter in the code, and now you’ll never have to do another manual Facebook login in your life.
The gadget displays your profile picture as well as your current status, and small icons and associated values next to them for how many pokes, events, friend requests, inbox messages, notifications, invitations, and group requests! This is all fine and dandy, but I have one problem with the gadget. You don’t actually receive any realtime information from Facebook, it only provides you with the number of each item, and when you click on the little icon, it opens up a browser and takes you to that specific Facebook page. This is cool – but what if you just want to keep an eye on what your friends are up to without having to open up your browser?
In order to accomplish this task, I went back to Windows Live Gallery and downloaded the other Facebook sidebar gadget called MyFacebook.
Automatic Facebook Login With MyFacebook
When you download and install this sidebar gadget, the first thing you’ll see is the same request for the Facebook code. You’ll need to obtain the code the same way as described above.
Just click on the link and go through the same steps – click “Get Login Code” and then “Generate.” Copy the code and then go back to the gadget and click on the “wrench” icon. You’ll notice that in this case, the form looks just a bit different.
These additional fields are required because this particular gadget has more functionality than the one above. It will automatically provide you with your friends’ latest status updates and picture gallery photos (if you want). I’m not really interested in the albums, but I do want the friend updates. If you only want your “notifications,” but not specific content from your friends’ walls, you need to find the notification feed. Not sure where to find it? Just click on the link above where it says “you can get the feed url from here.” You’ll be taken to a notifications page. Scroll down and on the right you’ll see “Your Notifications” – click on it.
This will take you to the actual RSS feed page for all of your notifications. All you have to do is copy the URL and paste it into the form on your sidebar gadget.
Now, getting your friend feed is much easier. In the sidebar gadget, just click on “click this link to enable Friends feed,” and then click “Allow Access” on the Facebook page that comes up – it doesn’t get much simpler than that.
The setup is similar to the previous gadget, except now that you have a real-time scrolling update of your friends’ status, the app feels much more interactive and always connected. Now, you can instantly update your own status, or you can just glance to the right and read the status updates of the latest few friends – and you don’t have to set foot inside any browser to do it!

Facebok Applications Development Company UK
Among many interesting features like photo and video sharing the Facebook platform has another very engaging feature associated with it, these are called Facebook Applications.
In its early days Facebook was used purely for connecting with friends and maintaining a social circle but with the passage of time e-marketers explored the opportunities presented by the Facebook network and they decided to use it as a social media marketing tool.
Facebook applications are the easiest way to approach millions of users who can be turned into potential customers. There are a lot of Facebook application development companies active globally specially in UK and Europe. So how do these applications help in brand promotion? The best part about Facebook is that it is for sharing, every activity a user performs is shared between their friends.
When a particular “brand application” is used it causes a viral affect which draws more users towards it this means the more an application is used the more the company is exposed to probable customers. The Facebook application developers have created gamming applications, quizzes, trivia and lots more; there are applications for promoting fashion designers, restaurants, super marts, IT companies, TV channels, celebrities etc.
Facebook application development has opened new doors for marketers who make use of this amazing Facebook feature to monetize ideas, promote brands, run campaigns and generate revenue.

How I got Banned from Facebook
Since Facebook is a we-learned-from-myspace's-mistakes kind of site, they are super, super, super paranoid about Spam. So the have a few strict published rules like:
1. No non-person profiles (you have to make a "fan page").
2. No porn.
And then, they have serveral internal rules, which will cause you a lot of frustration if you don't know about them.
Those internal rules are:
1. No repeat messaging.
2. No over-inviting.
3. No scraping (copy/pasting emails from facebook).
Overall, I agree with these policies. Here's the problem: They can't manage 6 billion people's behavior. No freaking way. So they have all these little internal Facebook Robots that are set to attack upon certain conditions.
There's no robot that can tell a business profile page from a personal profile page, which is why businesses still have profile pages. They can't write a robot smart enough to figure out real person names from busines names. But for all their internal rules, here are the Bots!
The Facebook Robots
After researching other Facebook bans, here's the robots I know about:
1. The Inbox Protector Robot: If you send messages to too many people using the compose tool within a 24 hour period, this robot boots you from facebook after you send to certain magic number of people. He causes problems when you are communicating the same information to a large number of people who really want the information.
2. The Friend Protector Robot: If you click the "Add a Friend" button on too many people within a 24 hour period, this robot boots you from facebook. She causes problems when you really do need to connect to a large number of people in a short period of time.
3. The Scraper Robot: If you copy (Cntl-C) information from too many friends' profile pages within a 24 period, this robot boots you from facebook. He causes problems when you are not a spammer, but need key information from your friends' pages.
4. The Anti-Porn Robot: If you post inappropriate material that gets flagged, this robot boots you from Facebook. She causes problems when you have a profile set to Adults only and someone still flags you, or if you are flagged by a jerk.
How Long Till You Get Back on Facebook
The best part is that the robots are set on timers. So after exactly 3 weeks, your profile is automatically turned back on. The email is signed from someone in Support, like "Bob." I'm sure that for each bot, you receive a different kind of message. This is a generic email programmed to be sent out when they automatically turn your profile back on.
How to Avoid the Robots
You will get a Warning message as you approach the limit on the number of messages or friend invites. Heed that Warning! That Warning is also a cue to the timer in the robot to start watching you. If you proceed to hit okay, everything will seem fine for a little while, then suddenly, your login ability will be taken away. And you will have gotten banned.
How to Play with the Robots
You can safely test the waters by continuing to add friends (maybe 50 or so) until you get the Warning message. When the Warning appears, hit Cancel, do not hit Okay. Then, do not add any more friends for 24 hours. This will successfully navigate you away from the robots, and allow you to continue with normal profile activity. If you try to add a friend later and you see the warning, you'll know that it hasn't been 24 hours.
I suspect the Robots will continue to get smarter, and eventually control your every thought. In the meantime, you can enjoy playing with them on Facebook.

What I've Learned From Facebook
Still if you are a Facebook addict, you know that the main attraction of this website is the status updates, the photo albums and the endless quizzes. People update with everything that is going on in their lives, be it the most mundane things or the most exciting things like jumping in the middle of Sahara Desert. Seriously, if you were jumping in the middle of Sahara Desert, wouldn't you prefer to enjoy the moment and the jumping, rather than rush to a sterile computer, login to your Facebook and tell everyone about it? Whatever happened to living in the moment?
If I were on top of Mount Everest, the last thing in my mind would be when would I be able to update my Facebook about this? And if I've just gotten into a car accident and is fighting for my life, I'd be sure to get my mobile phone and tell everyone on Facebook "Hey people it's been nice knowing you but I'm about to die. Don't forget to feed my cat." Yes, that's a big possibility since now you can update your Facebook status updates via your mobile connections. Maybe you can even get a good connection in heaven so that you can update everyone about what it's like.
That is my pet peeve about Facebook and other social networking sites and that none of my friends are calling me. There's no need to meet up because we know exactly what is going on each others' lives and if you can get a virtual cake, there's no need to eat either. Think of all the calories you can lose with virtual desserts! I'm glad my closest friends are not that active in Facebook. It means that we still have a chance to keep our friendship fresh and intact.
For my other 'friends' in Facebook, I've learnt so much about you. The top ten things I've learned are:-
1. I know every single furniture, dress, pants, appliances, mobile phones, rings, haircuts that you've bought. It's not hard to guess how much you are earning and if I need a loan, you'd be the first person I call.
2. I know what you eat and when you eat. The only thing I don't want to know is where it all goes after that. That's just too much information.
3. I know you have a maid and you've never taken care of your children for a day in your life. And that you are proud of it. Now you know I have to judge when you state it all so plainly for everyone to see. Hopefully mommies-to-be in your Facebook don't take parental lessons from you.
4. I know when you are asleep. It's sad though that you have to do it on your computer. After all the furniture you bought last week, did you not get a bed? And please don't update us about your dreams. Some of them should be kept private.
5. I know that you think the quizzes in Facebook are the Truth of all Truths. I really don't want to burst your bubble that you could possibly be the next Angeline Jolie, but people like you and me create these quizzes and I can put ANYTHING I like in those quizzes. I'm thinking of creating a quiz later titled 'Are you a frog or a toad?'.
6. I know how much you love to save money by sending virtual birthday presents to your friends on their special day. Just because you add a personal message does not make it ok.
7. I know what your husband look like. I know all your children's faces, your mother, your father, your teacher, your boss, your dog, your aunties, your uncles, your cousins and your stinky pillow. At least if they ever do anything nasty in public, I will recognize them for you. Better yet, I'll let you know with a status update.
8. I know all your travel plans, your vacation plans and when you are going to the market. Heck, I even know when you are going to the toilet! Basically, I know when you will be out of your house. Maybe it's time to invest in a security system.
9. I know when you are married and flirting with my single friend in Facebook that a virtual affair has just became a public affair.
10. Last but not least, I know that you can do better than just hang around in a virtual world telling people what you are doing every second of the day. Get up, get out, meet your real friends and make a real connection. And when you sleep at night today, you'd know that you didn't waste your day on a virtual connection that disappears after a few hours and probably only exists in a virtual plane.

How to Embed Videos on Your Facebook Wall
The reality of it is, Facebook has become far more popular than MySpace now and at it's peak, the majority of MySpace users had at least one video embedded on their profile, whether it was a MySpace video or a YouTube video. Now that these MySpace users have jumped ship to the other social networking site with the little blue icon, they'd like to have the same privilege of embedding video on their Facebook profile page.
So how do you do it?
OPTION 1 - posting the latest music videos on your Facebook wall and in your friends' news feeds
* find a website that supplies free viewing of the latest, most popular music videos by doing a search engine search of the following terms: - "urban videos" - "free music videos toolbar" - "grime music videos"
* find the video of your choice on that website and make sure the video has a "share on Facebook" button. If not, then go back to the previous stage until you find a website that enables Facebook video sharing
* click the "share on Facebook" button and it will open up a Facebook window asking you to log in
* enter your login details and click the "post to profile" tab... Feel free to enter comments that will appear alongside the video on your profile
* click "post" and that's it, the video is on your profile! It'll also show up in all of your friends' news feeds
OPTION 2 - posting any YouTube video on yours or a friend's Facebook wall using the "share a link" method
* browse youtube.com for a video of your choice
* go to your browser address bar, select the entire website address (URL) for theYoutube video page and right-click/apple-click and select "copy"
* now log into Facebook and go to yours or a friend's profile
* click the "share link" tab near the top of the page, then right-click/apple-click and paste into the text box displayed
* click "preview" then "post" and VOILA... the video is now embedded on yours or your friend's Facebook wall
These steps in option 2 can be repeated using various free video websites other than YouTube, as long as that website is an official Facebook share partner.

Facebook Isn't Just For Students Anymore
Facebook is a social networking site designed to help friends, classmates, colleagues, family members and others connect and stay in touch. People in your Facebook network may live far away or next door. Either way, it provides a great way to share small and big life events, get advice, gather voices, or just have fun. Whatever your original reason for setting up a Facebook profile, you're likely to find many more reasons to stay active and involved with your Facebook community.
If you think you're too old for Facebook, think again. The fastest growing demographic is people 35 years and older. Faraway grandparents have never had such an easy way to connect with their grandkids, and class reunions are happening "virtually" every day!
Getting Started
If you don't already have a Facebook account, it's easy, and free, to get started. Go to www.facebook.com to enter your name, email address, sex and birth date. You'll also be asked to create a password. To complete your sign up, Facebook will automatically send a verification email to the address you provided. Click the link to login to your new account and set up a profile.
When creating a profile, you can include as little or as much information as you want. However, keep in mind that taking the time to add a profile picture will greatly enhance your experience by building trust with other users and helping them visually identify you.
As you decide what information to share on your Facebook page, think about how you plan to use the site. If you primarily want to connect with old classmates, be sure to include all your alma matters. Want to grow your professional network or attract customers? Describe your current and past work experience in your profile.
The Friendly Way to Stay Safe
The next important step to creating a Facebook profile is choosing privacy settings. The settings you choose will determine who can see your profile details, photos and records of your site activity. It's usually best to give full access only to friends.
Making friends on Facebook is easy. The site will help you get started by finding accounts that match information in your email address book(s). As you add friends, activities and interests, Facebook will start suggesting people you might want to befriend. It may be someone who is also friends with some of your friends or someone who attended the same school as you.
You'll have the opportunity to invite people to become your friends, and others can send you an invitation, too. No two people can become friends without a mutual agreement. As your friends, people will have access to categories of content and activities according to your privacy settings. As in life, choose your friends carefully. Avoid adding people whom you don't actually know to prevent sharing the wrong information with the wrong people or opening your account to spamming.
Embracing Facebook
Avid users will tell you how addictive Facebook can become. You'll discover new ways to use it with each visit, and you may find postings by your friends as engaging as your favorite reality TV show.
Each time you login, the Facebook homepage invites you to share what's on your mind. People use this tool to ask questions, describe life events, share links, rant, rave and more. These are often referred to as "status updates," and your homepage will include a chronological list of these updates added by your friends. Each update also allows you to comment back or indicate that you "like" the posting. There are endless ways to use these conversation starters. For example, posting your desire to take the kids to see this weekend's box office hit might evolve like this:
Have something more private to share? Facebook has a direct message option that sends your note to only one person. If you don't mind being transparent, post your message to someone's "wall." A wall is kind of like the dry erase board you hung outside your college dorm room. Anyone could walk by and put a note on it, and everyone else could see it too. So, if you post on a friend's wall, then all their friends can read about the fun you had at last weekend's barbeque. If your friend responds back that he wants to plan another barbeque, then that response will appear on your wall. Only people who are friends with both of you can view the "wall-to-wall" conversation and get both sides of the story. They may get just enough information to invite themselves over!
Another way to build your Facebook profile is by uploading digital photos. In addition to your profile photo that will appear next to each of your comments, consider sharing pictures of your family, pets, vacations or other interests. Photos are an excellent way to demonstrate the social networking power of Facebook. For example, if you upload photos from the family reunion and all your cousins are on Facebook, then you can share the photos with them by "tagging" their image with their name. As a result, the photo also will appear on their profile page where all their friends can see it. Before you know it, your cousin's friend's friend may see your picture and realize you were his high school math teacher!
Choose your Facebook activities carefully. For every interesting and useful tool out there, you'll find a game or quiz that is a complete waste of time. Don't fall victim to peer pressure. Chances are your friends are wishing they had never started collecting lil' green patch plants or throwing snowballs.

What Is Facebook
Let's go over their new program called Facebook Ads:
When you are first experiencing with any pay-per-click program, you should be very wary of spending too much money too fast. By setting a small budget to begin with, you are correctly experimenting with what is going to work for you and your offer. Let's think about the negatives of setting a high budget per day right away with a new advertisement:
- You have no idea if your offer will convert or not
- You have no idea if there is more demand for your offer then you anticipated
- You have no idea what will happen whatsoever
Why would you setup a $100 a day budget right away vs. a $10 budget?
Well, you'd be an idiot, that's the only reason why.
Whenever you are starting out right away you should always test your market and offer with a small budget before cranking it up. Let's say your $10 budget is converting very well - then it's time to step up your budget to $20. From $20 move to $30 etc..
You never want to make any HUGE jumps in Internet Marketing, it's better to take many baby steps first.
Split testing: Any professional marketer knows they key to succeeding is by testing their advertisements. This is no difference in what we are doing; you must test your offers! A new marketer might think they have a great offer and set their daily budget to $200-$300, which is a lot of money to them. Well, what if the offer the novice marketer thought was going to do well turned out to do horrible? They are out almost their entire marketing budget. I have seen this happen to many marketers and I hate to see it happen.
There is nothing wrong with setting a 5-10 dollar budget the first day with 3 different ads to see which one does best.
You also want to be able to have multiple landing pages for your visitor to land on. Put a statcounter code on these pages to see which ones are getting the most hits. You can sign up for free statcounter codes that will be invisible on your landing pages at www.statcounter.com . I use them for over 50 projects and have had great results.
Schedule: I prefer to run my advertisements from Saturday until Thursday. In my tests, I have come to the conclusion that Fridays and Sundays are not the greatest days for Internet Marketing. It seems like many people do not bother poking around the Internet and are out doing other activities. During the week and Saturday's are generally my best days for profits. Schedule your ads accordingly to your peak times.
Budget Management: Be sure to manage your budget across many offers. Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Successful marketers have a lot going on that equals them to being successful. Do not be discouraged if one of your offers do not work, just cross it out and move on to the next one.

Should I Buy Photos on Facebook?
Do not buy photos. Your Facebook albums can be filled with whatever pictures you want. The hardest part of the entire process will be sending the pictures from your camera to your computer and then uploading them onto the site. There are some specific steps that you go through in order to upload pictures onto your profile and into your albums.
The first hurdle you must cross is the Facebook login. Once you have logged in it is time to go to your account and find the update account information. This is the place where you put in your personal information. There is a section devoted to creating albums and uploading pictures.
If you need help, then simply click the help photos link. Facebook will provide you with step-by-step instructions on creating your albums and will have a section devoted to uploading photos into these albums. There is a maximum number of photos you can put in one album (it is sixty) but you can create as many albums as you wish.
The profile Facebook allows you to create can be whatever you want to make of it. Upload your family vacation pictures into the Facebook album pages and you can share stories about your adventures with your friends.
Having a picture on your profile page is a great way for you to find friends and have them find you as well. It definitely beats the generic picture that all users have when they first create a profile. If you want to keep some of your photos private, then there is an option for that as well. So you let people see what you want them to see. How easy is that?
There are a few instances where you do buy photos that eventually wind up on your Facebook profile. You may need a photo lab to print off your pictures onto a disc which would cost you money. You could also be purchasing pictures that are copyrighted by your favorite photographer.
But those are generally the only two cases that it would be acceptable to purchase photographs. Once you have your photos assembled, it is time to upload and create albums for your friends and family to enjoy as they browse your profile on Facebook.

Best Social Networking Sites
When one thinks of social networking, MySpace usually comes to mind. 6StarReviews.com reports that MySpace allows users to create profiles, friends lists and post bulletins to their friends or communities with the click of a button. MySpace also boasts professor ratings and college and high school community groups for anyone looking for those with common interests.
Facebook, another popular social networking site, began as a Harvard phenomena and eventually opened its doors to most every college, high school and eventually user imaginable. Facebook popularized ‘the wall,’ where friends can post messages to each other via their profiles.
It is no secret that the social networking craze has opened doors for many business prospects, as well. Many college students can join industry-related groups and meet new contacts through websites like Bebo and MySpace. Politicians have also jumped on the bandwagon, adding a vast online demographic to their campaign trail targeting.
Who wouldn’t feel special having Hillary Clinton on their friends’ list? Nielsen/NetRatings found social networking sites grew about 47% last year, so evidently, these sites are breaking ground for more than one reason.

Learning the Basics of How to Make a Conference Call
Different call providers might have different routines for logging into their conference service, but the procedure is essentially the same. Once you've selected a carrier, ask them directly for instructions. Your provider ought to be able to walk you through the process even if you don't have the first idea yet how to make a conference call.
There are so many conferencing providers out there -- how can you tell which ones are best? Well, pricing is one of the first criteria. Look for a provider in your area that offers cheap long distance connection rates. Sometimes, having to connect to individuals based in other parts of the world can be trickier or more expensive than initially assumed. The nearer the provider is to you, as the initiator of the call, it is assumed that the sharper your reception will be. Anticipate problems with reception if some members of the conference are on the go or too far away.
Have a good idea of the number of people who will be accessing the conference call. This will enable your provider to select the best package to suit your needs. Sometimes, for small-scale packages, only six people (including yourself as the service subscriber) will be able to log into a teleconference at the same time.
Many conference call providers start off by assigning you a toll-free number, open for use only at the conference time you specify. Then, you'll be given information such as passwords or security codes which you can distribute to the other conference participants; they can then use those codes to access the toll-free number at the proper time. As the initiator of the teleconference (sometimes known as the Host) you'll be assigned a separate login, and this login will empower you to moderate the conference via simple touch tone commands. You can choose to mute only certain participants, or mute the entire conference, control the volume, etc. Remember: this is a huge responsibility!
Thanks to modern technology, teleconferencing doesn't have to be very hard for those of us who have yet to learn how to make a conference call. Don't let the fancy tech terms intimidate you -- it's as easy as pressing 1, 2, then 3!

Facebook Alert!- How To Prevent Your Account From Being Shut Down
After all the time and effort necessary to build up your friends list, the last obstacle you want to face in having your account shout down. With this in mind, whenever you extend a friends invitation, make sure that you include a personal message. It is important not to send a "blind" invitation. In addition, only send the same message to 7-8 people before changing the message. In fact, it would not be a bad idea to limit any given message to only 5 people per day. Remember too, that Facebook can change what is acceptable at any time.
Experienced subscribers can successfully add several dozen friends each day, but they must be careful to change messages. Facebook applies filters, and when they detect too many identical messages, the sender is sent a warning. It seems like after about 3 warnings, accounts are deactivated.
Messages must be varied with email as well. Again, try and avoid sending the same email message to more than 7-8 friends daily. If you have a website you would like your friends to visit, or important announcements, use the "Events" tool in your profile area. Using the events tool to send out multiple identical emails is permissible.
A certain recipe for losing friends and infuriating the Facebook community is to send out large blocks of emails. The emails that have dozens of addresses in the "to" field. This practice is a definite no-no! Your best solution is to use the "Events" tool in your profile area. When in doubt, use "Events."E-mail is really intended to be a one on one cyber "conversation."
Facebook is going to be on the scene for years to come. The site's popularity continues to grow, and currently boasts 62 million subscribers! Follow these simple suggestions, and you will have the possibility of 62 million "friends", instead of the opposite. online communities
Social networking has encouraged new ways to communicate and share information. Social networking websites are being used regularly by millions of people.
While it could be said that email and websites have most of the essential elements of social network services, proprietary encapsulated services gained popularity in the first decade of the 21st century.
The main types of social networking services are those which contain category divisions (such as former school-year or classmates), means to connect with friends (usually with self-description pages) and a recommendation system linked to trust. Popular methods now combine many of these, with Facebook widely used worldwide; MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn being the most widely used in North America;[1] Nexopia (mostly in Canada);[2] Bebo,[3] Hi5, StudiVZ (mostly in Germany), Decayenne, Tagged, XING;[4], Badoo[5] and Skyrock in parts of Europe;[6] Orkut and Hi5 in South America and Central America;[7] and Friendster, Mixi, Multiply, Orkut, Wretch, Xiaonei and Cyworld in Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Friendster Login Refused? -- Friendster and Facebook Proxy Options
Not so long ago, as employers took on younger people, they also appear to take on their habits. Many young employees believed (still do) that when they start to work for an employer they can take their surfing habits with them. At every opportunity they would use the company computer to access their Friendster account, login to Facebook or find what the latest big video was on YouTube. Obviously, their employers did not like this.
The result was that employers blocked certain URLs. This wasn't difficult because the vast majority of companies use an intranet system, so all they had to do was block the server from accessing these websites. As company networks became more sophisticated it was even possible to identify the computer from which the Friendster login attempt originated.
Universities and colleges soon followed, and it finally became obvious that private computers, or at least those operated by private concerns such as educational and government establishments, and businesses, were no longer willing to tolerate their staff using their computers or terminals to access social networking sites. Friendster login was refused, and those of other social networking sites.
This seemed unfair to many, and still does, because such sites are a means of communication just as cell phones are, and many use Twitter for example to send small messages to their friends. So what was the answer?
Simple when you think of it. The colleges and employers and whoever else blocks the URLs you visit, can only see one deep. So, if you visit a website that is not blocked, your company's server won't block you. You can log on to that site. Now, take it a step further. If you now use that website to log on to another website, your firm or college's spying software can't see that. It still thinks you are on the original innocuous website. Nobody except you knows that you are actually logged on to Friendster.
In basic terms, when it is used to log on to Facebook it is known as a Facebook proxy, and it can also be used as a Friendster login. A search box on another website can be used as a proxy to enable you to access any other website at all. It need not be YouTube, Friendster or, but any URL you want to access.
The problem with proxy sites is that once they have been used for a period of time, they are found, and that URL is then added to the list of banned sites. "Banned" does not mean that you should not access them: it means that you CANNOT access them. They too are blocked from you in the same way that a Friendster login is blocked.
That is why you need a regular source of proxy sites - finding one by accident seems great because you can log on to Friendster, and that Facebook proxy is allowing you to contact your buddies from work, but it won't last. Once it has been blocked then what do you do?
Better by far to find a website that offers a free Friendster login or a Facebook proxy that you can rely upon. Such sites will carry out checks on the proxies they offer, and change them when they have been found out. You will always have a tried and tested proxy that works.

Facebook Used To Setup Profitable Advertisements - Learn The Secrets
First, when you are advertising on Facebook Ads you need to ensure that you are selling something that college kids wants to see. College kids account for about 60% of Facebooks Audience, so you need to be sure that your offer is interesting and grasps their attention almost immediately.
It amazes me how many people setup Ads that have no relevance or USP. (Unique selling point) One factor that you need to remember is the majority of people you are going to be marketing to are college students. An advertisement that requires the user to purchase a high ticket item or do anything that requires anything too extensive would probably not do well on Facebook. For this reason, I recommend doing heavy research into what a college student needs and wants. I prefer to market for college offers, financing, laptops, iPods, auctions, and jobs. You do not have to be limited to those niches, but that is a good start.
First, you need to be sure you have a catchy domain name for your advertisement. Be sure you don't use any affiliate links or networks that are banned by Facebook. Doing this could get your Facebook Ad account banned right away! Use affiliate link cloakers or have your subdomain URL redirect to your affiliate link, but don't use direct affiliate links.
Second, you need to find the right offer to match your domain name. I highly recommend signing with a CPA network such as AZoogle, as they offer top payouts and top converting offers. For our example, let's say you were choosing the internet auction niche. You would want to target Facebook users that were interested in shopping. This will effectively target any Facebook user with an interest in shopping. After all, would you want your ad delivered to a profile that had no interest in buying items? Probably not, you have a much better chance at getting a signup through targeting users interested in shopping. Play around with the categories to see what works best for you. Next, I recommend choosing users that are 21 years and older. After all, you do not want to be promoting your item to people without credit cards. There are plenty of offers you can find on CPA networks like http://Azoogle.com that have offers for people under 21, but you have to do some searching. I personally have the best results keeping my age group above 21.
While we are talking about CPA networks, I'd like to explain it out for people who do not understand. CPA networks are the hottest networks in affiliate networking. If you can find a way to get a lot of affordable traffic, you can make a killing promoting offers like dating sites and other sites that pay-per-signup. Look for a network that offers the best payouts and conversion rates. CPA is literally everywhere now and is quickly becoming the most popular way of marketing.

What Is Facebook :: Facebook Ads Explained
When you are first experiencing with any pay-per-click program, you should be very wary of spending too much money too fast. By setting a small budget to begin with, you are correctly experimenting with what is going to work for you and your offer. Let's think about the negatives of setting a high budget per day right away with a new advertisement:
-You have no idea if your offer will convert or not
-You have no idea if there is more demand for your offer then you anticipated
-You have no idea what will happen whatsoever
